These features need to be looked at<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Golden green colour<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Smaller scales<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Head shape<\/strong> is rounded<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mouth<\/strong> are small and point slightly upwards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eye<\/strong> position is higher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Finer serration on the last hard ray of the dorsal fin<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(You may notice the more pronounced serration in the gibel carp when keeping it in a pen. Due to the large sawtooth teeth on the dorsal fin, it happens that they get caught on the netting of the keep net or the netting of the hand net).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"559\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/zachrankarase.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/karas-obecny-vs-stribrity-ilustrace.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-331\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">crucian carp (left) vs. gibel carp (right)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other signs - fish has to be dead for identification<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Number of gill rakers on the first gill arch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crucian carp \u2013 23-33<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gibel carp and goldfish \u2013 38-57<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Peritoneal colouration (lining of the abdominal cavity)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crucian carp \u2013 whitish to silvery<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other Carassius \u2013 dark<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: Individuals of the three species mentioned above (gibel carp, goldfish and ginbuna) are difficult to distinguish from each other and form a so-called species complex <em>C. auratus<\/em>, they can hybridize and all are widespread in the Czech Republic. For identification purposes (of this project), it is sufficient to distinguish between the crucian carp and one of these three non-native Carassius. Then just write the gibel carp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below you can see the subtle differences between the crucian carp and gibel carp.
